HAPPY STAR WARS DAY TO ALL!!!!
Mission BC. That’s where I have spent one weekend a year for the last 3 years dancing. As you probably already know form some of my other posts I am Ukrainian and I also am a Ukrainian Dancer. This weekend was the Mission Ukrainian Dance Festival. My dance group goes there for the one day of dancing and we always have so much fun. I’m going to tell you all about it.
Mission is a fairly small town near surrey BC. It’s pretty old too but there are some really new things like the school we preform at. There are a whole bunch of different groups. I think there were about 10 this year and each group has more then 20 dancers. One group has ten girls and ten guys in the age range of 15 to 18 and most of them have just arrived from the Ukraine this year. They were speaking Ukrainian the whole time.
The Senior girls from my team (that’s the group I’m in) Got a bronze, a silver and a gold for the three dances we did. The gold was for our shawl dance. The adjudicator (the judge) said that the shawl’s are hard props to use and we used them very effectivly. We were called elegant. With our Privit (welcome dance) The younger kids missed there que so we lost points for it. We got a bronze for that dance. The third dance we did was a plotava dance ( a region in ukraine). We got a silver for it because we have only been practicing the full dance for a a coulpe weeks. We mixed up some of our timings on something and had our ribbons in the wrong hands at some points. But int he end we were only 2 points less then getting a gold so all in all we did pretty good this weekend considering the mistakes.
The best part about mission is the after party. We all get together in someone’s room and have a party. this year Austin Power: Gold Member was on TV so we were watching that and laughing really hard. There is also a pool in hotel we stay at and we spend most of our time (when were not dancing) in the pool. My friends at dance are like my family because This was my 8th year dancing with these kids. We are one large disfunctional family. We are best friends.
I have more than one hero in my life. Some I know personally some I have never met. Some are dead. But all the same they are hero’s to me. Here are my top 5 hero’s.
At number 5:
Oprah. She is a truly amazing woman who has ever thing she could want or need and with all of that she is still a real person and helps with poverty through out the world. She has gone through struggles in her life such as here childhood. She had lived with her mother from when she was 6 to when she was 13. After suffering abuse and molestation, she ran away and was sent to a juvenile detention home at the age of 13, only to be denied admission because all the beds were filled. She was finally sent to live with her father. It must of been hard for her and now she is a successful talk show host and business woman. She once said “It doesn’t matter who you are, where you came from. The ability to triumph begins with you. Always”. That line really makes you think. She is one of my hero’s.
At number 4:
Ghandi. He fought for what he believed and didn’t stop. He was against any violence, ate vegetarian, and also undertook long fasts for means of self purification and social protest. He never stopped fighting and ended up dieing for his beliefs. He was amazing. He was even thrown off a train in south Africa for his race but even then he never gave up.
At number 3:
Susie Mcgregor. Susie is my local teacher. Singing is her career and she is just amazing. When I go into the music studio the first thing I see is all her albums and posters. There are guitars on the wall and a piano. Susie is really nice and awesome to be around. She is a truly amazing musician and her voice is so beautiful. I really respect her and what she does. I hope to be as sucessful as her one day.
At number 2:
Donna Baydock. She was an olympic volleyball player. She is also my mom. My mom was on the jr national team and the national team for Canada. She was on both teams for a total of about 6 or 7 years. She has got me into volleyball and I love the sport. She was supposed to be in the 1980 summer olympics but they got canceled for Canada and 62 other contries. Maybe I will be able to live her dream.
At number 1:
David Regehr. My daddy. I am the biggest daddys girl but not because he gives me lots of stuff. Its the exact opposite. My dad doesn’t spoil me and doesn’t inrole me in everything I want to do. He keeps me grounded and if my mom wants me to do something that I don’t want to do he always does whats best for the family and for me. Every night he makes a family dinner before our activeities. He is also a drag racer. He takes our family to go see him race at one of the biggest tracks and he has got a licence to drive under 8 seconds. He introduced me to cars and I am really starting to like them. I love my dad and he is my biggest hero.

The grass is warm and soft to the touch. The breeze blows my hair around my face.I can hear bird song and see the mountains in the distance. The sky is blue with big puffy clouds that remind me of marshmallows. There’s a slight sweetness to the breeze. The trees seem to sway to some music only they can hear and all of this slowly lulls me into a trance. Memories run through my mind. A crow cries out in a near by tree bringing me back. The only sound are the cars going by in the distance. A lift drifts by me on the afternoon air. Its so peaceful out here I can think clearly. Suddenly a Yellow buffalo flies through the sky. No I am not crazy its a plane. Such a beautiful day coming to a close and I think I am so lucky… to have a teacher who will let us go outside for an afternoon and do nothing.
Israel Kamakawiwo’ole. An amazing man. His voice was a gift to the Hawai’ain islands. He became famous outside of hawaii when his album Facing Future came out in 1993. It had his medley of “some where over the rainbow” and “what a wonderful world” on it which was featured in several movies, TV shows and commercils.
Isreal Ka’ano’i Kamakawiwo’ole (AKA Bruddah Iz) was born on May 20, 1959 at Kuakini Hospital in Honolulu to Henry Kaleialoha Naniwa Kamakawiwoʻole, Jr. and Evangeline Leinani Kamakawiwoʻole (yes I agree his fathers name is VERY long). He began playing music at the age of 11 with his brother Skippy. His instruments were ukulele and his voice.
He grew up in Kaimuki were his parents had met and married. In his early teens his family move to Makaha, Hawaii. There he met his soon to be band mates Louis “Moon” Kaukahi, Sam Gray and Jerome Koko. Him and his brother Skippy formed a band with these other four men and called it The Makaha Sons of Ni’ihau. Throughout 1976 to 1980 they toured throughout Hawaii and the USA and the band gained popularity. They also releasled 15 sucessful albums.
In 1982 Iz’s brotehr Skippy Died of a heart attack. In the same year Iz married his child hood sweet heart and soon after they had a daughter whom they named Ceslieanne “Wehi”.
Throughout the later part of his life Iz suffered from suvere obesity and at one point put on 769 pounds on his 6′2 frame. He endured several hospitalizations and on June 26, 1997 at 12:18 am He died of weight-related respiratory illness at 38 years old. He lives in through his wife Marlene Kamaawiwo’ole and his daughter Ceslianne “Wehi”.

The water looked so cold. As I walked closer to the edge of the diving board it started to bend and I started to slip. “NOOOOOOOOOO IT’S TO COLD!!!!” I scream. “I’m not ready to die. I see the light!” The board keeps pointed down and I keep slipping. My tiny frame was shaking. ”HELP I’M FAWING SOMEONE SAVE ME”. No body comes. I’m all alone and I’m going to die. I will fall down into the depths of the water and be gone. I’ll meet the same fate as my father and mother. “NOOOO I’M GOING TO BE BACON!!!!!!!” it was the end for me. I couldn’t hold on any longer. It was time to let go. I slid to the end of the board and tipped right over the edge. “GOODBYE CRUEL WORLD”! The water surrounded me. I was bacon. I can here “poor little porker. He didn’t even have a chance.” And then I go under. All of a sudden I reach the surface. ” I CAN BREATHE!” I scream. I get out of the pool, shake myself off and say “Lets do it again”.

I love listening to music and finding new music to listen to. When I write a post about music I want to find out what your listening to so I decided to make a survey about music! Finding new music is like finding a new best friend. It sticks with you through thick and thin and is always there to lean on. So, what’s your tune?

Ah, blogging. The true way to tell people what you think. If you’re using a pen and paper you can only show the people in your family and the people in your town but blogging makes it so you can tell the world what you’re thinking. I’ve been blogging for about 6 or 7 months and it’s added something to how I write.
I think that if I had the choice between paper and pencil VS. Blogging I would choose blogging. Blogging is a lot easier for me because typing does not take that long and its like playing the piano. Your fingers have to move in the same way. The sound of your fingers against the keyboard and the smooth flow of your hands moving across the keys…you can’t get that from a pencil and paper. Sitting in a class room listening to the teacher talk and talk about language arts and telling us what writing should be from some book compared to just getting to write and let people know what you think all over the world is so much better. Getting to learn in a different way and learn from other students and hear there views on things is (I find) more interesting because its more than just what a book has to teach you. It’s someone else talking.
I write. I write a lot and to be able to write freely about something that I might be shy about is great. If people like it that’s great, but if they don’t like it its better then standing up in front of a class and have people laugh or point or snicker. You get to connect to people that you would have never met otherwise and you can find out what other classmates are really like. You can make friends with someone in your class that you might not have ever talked to. If you go and read their blog you get to know what their like and who they are.
I could talk forever about how great blogging is but instead if you want to know what it’s like to blog then you should find out for yourself.
